Daytona Travel Star Goretex Boots
I bought these in 2002 and at the time I think they had a slightly different name. However they look just the same as these in the picture. The blurb that accompanies these on the web says this :-
“Top of the range waterproof leather boot. This 34 cm high boot is crafted in hydrophobia treated cow hide, and waterproofed by the fitting of a GORE-TEX® climatic membrane and generous latex foam padding. Adjustment of the calf fitting by the use of burr adhesion fasteners and a spray resistant edging is fitted at the top of the boot. Plastic reinforced shin and ankle regions. Two zips are used for easy fitting and removal. Fully sealed inner gussets with GORE-TEX® prevent the entry of any water and special vents aid the drying of the outer leather. Leather covers are fitted on top end of the zips. 3M-Scotchlite reflector in heel, plastic reinforced gear change pad. Leather insole with zinc plated steel and plastic reinforcement, foam cushion layer between insole and robust touring sole with rubbing edge in toe area, oil and petrol resistant. Preformed additional replaceable inner sole for wearer comfort”.
In use the boots have performed superbly for me. They are still completely waterproof and apart from a rinse and an occasional application of Nikwax they get no special attention. Inevitably, the leather around the toes is somewhat scuffed but this hasn’t affected their performance at all. The soles and heels are in pretty good shape despite walking quite a lot in them. They are comfortable in use both off and on the bike for a whole day, easy to put on and take off and as far as I can tell offer a decent level of protection. I have to admit I haven’t crashed in these (I reserve that for off-roading in motocross boots
)
I rate these 8/10. I would have scored them higher if I had good experience of their protective qualities but as I said I haven’t had cause to test these.
